Valkeakoski is the main town in the region of Häme, 35 km south-east of Tampere. The town is right in the middle of the region's beautiful lakeland area, between the lakes of Mallasvesi to the north and Vanjavesi to the south. Of the total area of 376 km2, 27% is water. The population is 22,500.

2004 new measures for cooperation between the Nordic twin cities were taken. The agreement covers the following areas and target groups:

- Politicians meetings for legitimacy and continuality
- Direction meetings for structure and cause
- Youth exchanges
- Projects and partnerships
- Infrastructure measures
