The contacts between Gotland and Gammelsvenskby are lively since the “perestroika”. The organisation Svenskbyborna cooperates with the town in several areas. To strengthen the bonds further a twinning agreement was signed between the Municipality of Gotland and Gammelsvenskby the 15 april 2001. Important areas of cooperation are regional democracy development and different projects within the areas of education, culture and sports.
